Château Meylet
David Favard

In the Saint-Emilion winegrowing landscape, where conventional viticulture is still in the majority and has left its mark on Bordeaux wines, the Favard family's Château Meylet has been an exception since the 1970s and 1980s. A human-sized estate, organic/biodynamic cultivation, small yields, no inputs: a Grand Cru that differentiates itself by its frankness and sincerity.

The vines of Château Meylet are located in the Gomerie district, on sandy-limestone or gravelly soils (with the presence of "crasse de fer") characteristic of the terroir that extends at the foot of the hillside to the northwest of the city of Saint-Émilion. The estate - 2 small hectares composed of 75% Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the acquisition in 2019 of a 1.5 hectare farm - has been managed since 1978 by Michel Favard and since 2004 by his son David, the fifth generation of winegrowers at Château Meylet. The cultural work has progressively evolved in the direction of a more and more rigorous culture, first in organic and then, since 1987, in biodynamic, of which the domain (member of the Association of Natural Wines) is a pioneer in the Bordeaux region. No phytosanitary products, no oenological inputs, vinification in wooden vats: a permanent quest for a Grand Cru as natural as possible. In the same spirit and with the same conviction, David Favard continues his father's approach, but with even more precision and tension, a style that gives a new dimension to the wines.
