Gabrio Bini has a single, uncompromising ambition: to produce wines that fully express the energy and wild character of the volcanic terroir of the island of Pantelleria: in other words, wines that are out of the ordinary, a total, even extreme, expression of the land that gave birth to them.
Pantelleria, between Sicily and Tunisia, is a volcanic island renowned for its Muscat (Muscat of Alexandria, here called Zibibbo) and its capers. The energy and wildness of the land won over and inspired the Milanese architect Gabrio Bini, who in the 1990s set up a vineyard here in the Serragghia district, which today covers 8 hectares (old and young vines) and is run by his son Giotto (who also produces capers). Zibibbo dominates, alongside other grape varieties (catarratto, pignatello, carignan...). A single, uncompromising ambition: to produce wines that fully reflect the energy and wildness of the terroir: cultivation and vinification without inputs, no interventionism, maceration with the grape skins, use of terracotta amphorae (220 litres) buried in the volcanic soil. This means that the wines are out of the ordinary, a total, even extreme, expression of the land that gave birth to them.
