The vineyards of the Yonne, in Lower Burgundy, are dominated by the Chablis appellation, which is too famous to be brought to the fore... except for a handful of winegrowers who are in love with an authentic expression of one of the most beautiful Burgundy terroirs. Athénaïs de Béru is part of this movement, not only on her Chablis estate of Château de Béru but also in vintages made from grapes purchased from a few other organic winegrowers in the Yonne.
As soon as she took over the family estate of Château de Béru - in Béru, a village in the south-eastern part of the Chablis appellation area - in 2006, Athénaïs de Béru embarked on the path of organic farming, a journey that gradually led her to certification in 2013 and then, in the early 2010s, to biodynamic practices. This approach has made the wines of Château de Béru among the most convincing in Chablis, but Athénaïs feels the need to broaden the scope of her experiments and to sign, under her own name, vintages made from grapes - whites and reds - bought from a few other organic winegrowers in the Yonne region and vinified with the same demands for authenticity which make the difference with conventional production.
