The region of Treviso, in the Veneto region, is distinguished by its famous sparkling wine, prosecco, made from the local grape variety of the same name - now officially called glera - whose best terroirs are located around the villages of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, which are classified as DOCG (denominazione di origine controllata et garantita). The sparkling process is carried out in closed pressure tanks (Martinotti or Charmat method) and gives, for the best wines, a fine and light sparkling wine, more or less dry (Brut) or sweet (Extra-dry).
Since 1978, the Tormena family has been established in Col San Martino, a village located in the hills near Valdobbiadene, where they cultivate 12 hectares of vines - 7 main plots, including Vigna San Gallo - dedicated to the predominantly local glera grape variety, but also to some old autochthonous varieties (bianchetta, verdiso, perera, boschera). In accordance with the requirements of organic farming, respectful of the soil, the plant and biodiversity, and wines typical of the rural tradition of the Treviso area.
Issues du terroir pentu de la Vigna San Gallo, au sol de nature calcaire et exposée Sud, les vieilles vignes de glera (90 %) sont ici accompagnées de variétés autochtones (bianchetta, verdiso).
