Living Wines

In harmony with our philosophy, the notion of "natural" wine is becoming increasingly important in the practices of winemakers and in the choices of consumers.

For winemakers, the notion of "nature" is based on the idea that wine is not a simple "artefact": for man it is at once food and a source of pleasure.

This notion stems from the choice of an agriculture that adapts to ecosystems, as opposed to an agri-food industry that wants to transform the ecosystems themselves. In concrete terms, natural wine represents a desire to distance ourselves from viticultural and vinification methods that increase the number of interventions and treatments at all stages of vineyard work and winemaking. These interventions denature the subtle and complex biochemistry of wine's constituents, which are derived from the terroir, through the use of synthetic chemical products. In contrast to the industrial conception of winemaking, which advocates chemical fertilisers, pesticides, lab-produced yeasts and bacteria, chaptalisation, sulphur, acidifiers and other treatments, low-intervention winemaking honours and magnifies the living matter that is wine.

For consumers, natural wine is a quest for taste, of course, but by freeing themselves from the stereotypes of conventional wines, natural wine drinkers open themselves up to a shifting diversity of expressions - the singularity of a terroir, the specificity of a given vintage, or the "signature" of the winegrower. And with wines that are easier to digest, without hurting your stomach or your head, and without harming biodiversity!

Tasting a natural wine means understanding its own requirements and its personality. It's an approach that requires understanding, for instance, the note of reduction induced by a winemaker's desire to avoid oxidation without resorting to sulphur, and therefore requires aerating the wine in the glass to develop its subtleties. Or to enjoy the unusual tannic profile of a skin-contact white (an "orange" wine, vinified like a red wine), to fully appreciate its intensity and depth. Then there's the joy of tasting the aromatic complexity of a Beaujolais wine devoid of the usual banana aromas, or the rich floral palette of a deep rosé...

In short, the quest for natural wines is that of living products that are good for the taste, for the body and for the spirit!
