Grande Champagne |
0,70 L |
A cognac with mysterious origins, which was not originally intended to be bottled. This cognac comes from a unique 400 litre cask, referenced in our stocks for many years. It has probably undergone some blends with cognacs of the same age, as happens sometimes to some of our casks that are not vintages, nor cognacs intended to be incorporated our collection. This cognac is not really a single estate, but it is a unique cask.
Almost black in colour, very dark, showing proof of a very long time spent in casks. Average palate, dense, nose of very old cognac, old Madeira, old Balsamic. However, blackcurrant buds, exotic fruits (passion fruit) emerge. The signature of a beautiful Grande Champagne is there, in this successful tension between thick notes and very elegant notes, which would be contradictory in another vintage. Rounded and creamy in the mouth. Pronounced rancio and well-developed tannins support the ensemble. Very dense, rich, slightly watery final, before the elegant notes of a very old Grande Champagne definitively settle. Very rare.
« Comments: humbling and evocative ancient Cognac. We do not know how much time it spent in wood vs. glass, but if it had spent its whole life in Quercus, which is entirely possible, we do believe in miracles again. Hallelujah. Angus says we could make great Jagerbombs out of this. I’ll take his words for it ».
