Le Coste is an estate that is emblematic of the development and influence of natural wines in Italy. It was founded in 2004 by Gian-Marco Antonuzi and Clementine Bouveron in Gradoli, at the northern tip of Lazio on the border of Tuscany, on the volcanic slopes overlooking Lake Bolsena. In the management of their vineyards, the winegrowers are determined to refuse monoculture, to defend biodiversity and respect for a rich environment, and to favor natural vinification without inputs or corrective interventions.

A sparkling wine ("espurnejant") composed of Xarel.lo from 2011 aged in oak barrels, with the addition of Macabeu must from the following year. 14 months on the lees before disgorgement.

A unique terroir, located in the Chiusa Spagnolo area, a kind of volcanic rock amphitheater in the "contrada" Zottorinoto, with old vines of nerello mascalese frank of foot (planted around 1925).

Nerello Mascalese from the Campo Re "contrada", a north-facing vineyard that sits at 730m altitude. Destemmed then macerated for 50 days, and matured for 18 months in vats before bottling.

Granite soils - such as those of the Beaujolais, where it reigns supreme - are the preferred terroir of Gamay. Characterised by its freshness of fruit and its lively vinosity - too often pushed to the point of caricature, particularly in the Beaujolais "primeur" style - Gamay is magnified when vinified "à la beaujolaise" i.e., in whole bunches (carbonic or semi-carbonic maceration), which exalts the organoleptic singularity of the grape variety and softens its acidity and its natural tannins, whereas Burgundian vinification gives a more structured texture. Farmed and produced following natural methods, Gamays are at once deliciously drinkable and offer real depth.
