Franz Strohmeier
STYRIE
After a dark period, Austria has returned to the forefront of the great wine countries. Thanks in particular to winegrowers such as Franz Strohmeier, an exceptional representative of the Styrian vineyard (Steiermark), located in the southwestern part of the country and today in full swing.
In the 1990s – following his father, a polyculturalist who owned a few vines for family use – Franz Strohmeier created his estate in the heart of the steep slopes of his village of Lestein, and in the 2000s he converted his vineyard to biodynamics. Freely growing vines, small yields, vinifying the grapes with low intervention to reflect the terroir: this is how Franz Strohmeier's philosophy can be summed up, based on total trust in the nature.
