Julien Guillot - Clos des Vignes du Maynes
BURGUNDY
In Cruzille, a village in the North of Mâconnais, the Domaine des Vignes du Maynes comes from a very old Clos created by the monks of the Abbey of Cluny. Since its acquisition by the Guillot family in 1952, it has established itself as a pioneering and emblematic domain of organic viticulture and wine: it produces whites and reds of the Bourgogne, Mâcon and Mâcon-Cruzille appellations that are particularly renowned for their authenticity.
Emblematic domain of organic viticulture and wine in the Mâconnais and more widely in France, the Domaine des Vignes du Maynes comes from a Clos created in Cruzille, to the North-East of Cluny, by the monks of the Cistercian abbey in the dawn of the tenth century. Acquired in 1952 by Pierre Guillot then passed on to Alain (in 1970), who was president of the National Federation of Organic Agriculture, then to Julien (in 2001), the vines today represent 8 ha (to which are added purchases of organic grapes for certain cuvées), farmed entirely organically since the beginning. The impeccable quality of the grapes, obtained by very rigorous farming practices, is optimized in the cellar by vinification with little intervention (apart from a small dose of sulfur on the whites before racking). The reds are done in semi-carbonic maceration ("millefeuille" of whole bunches and destemmed berries) in wooden vats then are aged in barrels and tuns without racking, the whites only know large containers to favor the freshness of the fruit which is one of the domain constants. Objective – perfectly achieved –: lively and convivial wines, with beautiful aromatic elegance, fine minerality and silky texture.
